Hit Bahadur Shakya is a member of the CPN-Maoist Centre central secretariat. This is the third time that he is contesting elections from Nuwakot. During the first and second CA elections, he was defeated by Nepali Congress leader Ram Sharan Mahat.

The former Minister for Youth and Sports was a commander of the Maoist rebel army.
