Ram Sharan Mahat is one of the most influential of Nepali Congress leaders. He was appointed minister on different occasions and held Finance and Foreign Affairs portfolios. He has also worked as vice-chair of the National Planning Commission.
For the last 23 years, Mahat has held on to his constituency during every election.
