Ranjit is an old name in the Nepali Congress. His rivalry with the UML's Krishan Gopal Shrestha dates back to the first general elections after the first People's Movement. During the 1993 elections, it was Shrestha who won the race while during the CA elections, but Ranjit claimed the constituency in both the CA elections.
