Purna Bahadur Tamang 'Kanchharam' is a Nepali Congress Mahasamiti member. This is the first time that he is contesting elections. Tamang, who is an 'A' grade contractor, is believed to have been affiliated with the party since 1998.

Tamang contested the elections for the party central committee twice, but was defeated on both occasions.

Tamang's main contender this time is Shyam Shrestha from the Left Alliance.
